But also as an alternative would be to train your dog to hit a target and then place the target behind you so that the dog has to walk around you to hit it.
 
My dog does get in this way. I think the "trick" with this is to move with the dog. You put the dog on a leash, sit it in front of you, then quickly walk backwards calling it to you, guiding it around you with the leash, then quickly walk back to where you were and sit it again.
I'm no expert but this is how I was taught and it worked well for me and the people and dogs that attend my same "school" :dogtongue2:
 
what is this trick, what is the finished product? circle around you and sit beside your left leg or is it something else?
