Something quite fluffy and merle... I want to say border collie but he's not quite right for one, it looks like he has the wrong tail, the wrong legs and the wrong body... so exactly like a border collie then

Good point! It almost looks like it has been clipped, except for the tail. Do Portuguese Water dogs come in merle?

The legs look a funny shape for a Aussie to me (but I don't know much about them) it just seems to be quite tall - more like a rough collie though obviously it isn't one.

I think we may have a winner...! I gotta agree with you on a Mudi. The curlyish shortish fur fits in with that breed.

I've looked at the mudis and I agree - mostly because their hind legs are the right shape too

I have to confess, I googled "dog breeds merle" and got a list of the ones we already knew, plus a couple I had never heard of. I then googled the ones I didn't know and looked at "images". I found the exact photo Danielle posted under images for Hungarian Mudi!

it is a Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen.
