BTW, if you've wondered about this, whether it's an auditory thing only, or if it's due to the, uh, sensation being somehow different, Calvin the deaf dog has kindly answered this question for us. It's mostly an auditory thing. Of the few squeakers he's had, only once did he turn to look.
