Waging tail

My pomerian dog use to wage his tail whenever he is watching the television or eating food. I have stopped him several times from doing this because this behavior of him irritates me a lot. Can you give some suggestions?

When he wags his tail does it hit you or knock stuff over? I guess I just don't understand why that behavior irritates you or why you want to train your pom to stop.

A dog wagging his tail means he is happy. No need to get rid of such a pure and positive behavior.

You could put it on command like homer has mentioned. People will believe that your dog is understanding your words if you do!

To put it on command, you can simply say "Wag!" followed with a click & treat, while he is wagging his tail.
