Hello All, I'm new to the group! From Boston, MA (USA) have two Boston Terrier / Pitbull Mix pups (1.7 yrs) brother and sister! We are trying to teach them to retrieve things on command i.e. the tv remote, slippers, specific toys, etc. Looking forward to exploring this community further!

Hello dvandertuck! Welcome to the Academy! Retrieving is such a fabulous thing to train your dog to do because you can easily give him the exercise that he needs without much energy on your part. :) Have you trained your dog previously? I'm sure we can help you out with your goals. I've trained my husky to put her toys away.

You should also check the challenge forum. I think it was our very first challenge when we asked contestants to teach their dog to retrieve a household object--remotes, keys, whatever. When you find this thread you will be able to see many different vids with different techniques, all successfully teaching their dogs to retrieve things.

Welcome to the Academy, enjoy the site, and good luck!!

Oh I loved the video of Ellie :doglaugh: She is such a sweetheart.

Well done for that tric

PS

One thing puzzles me .. as a man I am surprized the remote control ever leaves your hand. My boyfriend seems to have it welded to his body aty all times :msngiggle:

lol Yes, but it dawned on me, that as I get older, it becomes harder to maintain my vice-like grip on the control. Therefore, I'm just planning ahead by teaching the dog to get it for me and lock it in her jaws until I need it. :)
