My First Birthday - By Leaf

Yes friends, I am now one whole year old! My Birthday was the February 14, I'm a St. Valentine's Day Gal, a love child, in more ways than one so Mom says:giggle::giggle:. But sadly, because of all the much needed rain, my Birthday Party was washed out!:(

Can you believe it? My BFF and other friends were not able to come, besides which our back garden was more suited to a Hippo's birthday party than dainty little gals like me. Have I mentioned I totally, completely and without any shadow of doubt HATE RAIN, WATER AND WET GRASS!

So, instead of being able to tell you all about what my BFF and other doggy friends got up to, all I can say is I still got my weekly bath (due to my allergies) my presents and a big hug from Mom and no party!

Really, you would think Mom could have forgone the bath, after all it was my Birthday! She says to stop grouching cuz if I don't have that awful thing I start scratching like crazy! HUMBUG!!!!!!! Well, in the name of honesty I do scratch and the awful thing does stop that, o.k. no more grouchings!

My party Mom says, will be held when the weather is more conducive to Doggy Parties, guess I'm just gonna have to be patient and wait!

And Mom told me that there's a certain little chap who's longing to meet me - oooh la la!!! Seems he needs someone to play with and apparently, according to Mom, he's very good looking, well mannered and polite. Sounds like the Perfect Gentledog!

Pictures and video will follow, when I finally have my Party! Hey just thought, maybe that promised Gondola trip would be just perfect as 'make up', especially if I've a smart young Gentledog on my paw;) Hint! Hint Mom!!

Oh yes and one of my presents was a new light weight rain coat - it's red tartan with a hood of course, don't won't my ears and head getting wet. Mom knows the way to a gal's heart, especially when she's a little Fashionista. Roses maybe lovely, but they don't keep a gal dry - I did mention I'm 'allergic' to rain :giggle::giggle: We did try it out, but hey Mom, I do need some booties, my paws still get wet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Chloe, I do so love your name. Mom says she was being cruel to be kind, the bath is necessary BAH!:(

But she has promised me a really good make up party and I sure will keep her to that!:D Wonder if I'll get more presents? Booties for the wet to match my coats would be a nice present. Or that sweet little collar I saw, or that necklace...a gal could go on and on:D

Makena here - I'm so sorry you didn't get your party! That's awful!! Every diva needs a blow-out celebration on her special day!!!! But - I can see how partying outside in the pouring rain might be a bit of a problem. Hmph. I'd make darn sure your mom makes good on her promise for an extra-special party, and yes, she'd better come up with loads of extra presents to make it all up to you! After all, a girl only has one first birthday, it has to be a memorable one! (y)

Alf here - hey, sorry you didn't get your party, but I'm trying to understand this whole thing. It sounds like it would have been perfect, I just don't get it, sorry. Rain, the outdoors, mud, slop - sorry, it all sounds perfect!:ROFLMAO::cool: I'd be mad too, if my mom canceled my birthday party just cuz of that. I say no excuses, the party must go on!!! And hey, mud is just an extra gift!! And you can even bring that in the house (altho mom is never as happy as I am when I bring it in, not sure why - some things I guess I just don't understand). Anyway, I hope you get your party with your friends and some extra presents too, and maybe you can still find some leftover mud, kind of like a bonus for waiting. You should try it, it's fun to play in, really! If you haven't tried it, let me know and I can tell you all kinds of fun stuff to do in it. Anyway, happy birthday!

Hi Makena:D Thank you so much for understanding a gals needs. You're such a Diva, you're my role model, I aspire to being a True Diva just like you. Oh yes, Mom says when the weather settles down, it's up and down at present, I'll have a real blast of a party and loads more presents, as I should of course! Ooooh so exciting being one whole year old, I feel so grown up, but Mom says I'm still quite a puppy:rolleyes::D

Makena, is playing in mud something an aspiring Diva would do? Alf highly recommends it and says it's fun and I do love to have fun.

Hi Alf - oh Alf, I guess it's a 'girlie thing' not wanting to get our hair messed up and all muddy. Rakins is up there in the Summerland agreeing with every word you've written, he loved rain, mud, slop and puddles too.:D

Oh yes, I was mad, I thought Mom should have held my party inside but she said 'not enough room inside'. Ooooh maybe I should try bring mud inside, that does sound like a lot of fun. Would you help me learn how to bring mud inside? I agree, Mom's don't always think the same way as we do, like I've just tried again to create a Winter Wonder Land, using the duvet feathers, Mom wasn't impressed at all, especially as she found out just when she was about to go to bed. Strange creatures these Moms aren't they, hard to understand at times.

Please do, I love having fun and if playing in mud is fun, then I sure don't want to miss out. I take every opportunity to have fun!:D

Hi Leaf - Ripley here... I too am sorry you didn't get your party and hope your make up party is awesome... Maybe I'm a tomboy but I too agree with Alf on the mud action -

Although my bestie Ollie would not agree, he would hate mud on his birthday and makes a fuss if even one raindrop falls on his nose! I think you and Ollie would get on swimmingly (excuse the pun!)
Here is Ollie trying to tell me not to get him wet:

But did I listen... NO!!!

Hope your birthday was not a complete 'washout'! And enjoy your make up party!

Enjoy the stud-muffin boy-toy and remember, we Divas are always on top!

Happy Birthday Girl!!!

But I think Ripley you're a really lovely gal and I DO love an independent gal who does what she wants, not what others expect her to do - sorry Ollie!

We would get along swimingly, oh dear there's that pun again, eeeek!

Thank you Veronica for those words of wisdom! I feel a bit embarrassed at letting the Diva Side down. I really do have to poop in some shoes and let that human know who's boss, she's getting too big for her boots lately.
I will enjoy the stud-muffin boy- toy and again, thank you for the words of wisdom. I do so wanna be a true Diva like you and Makena, my two role models!

Makena here - Ripley, I could party with you big time!! It's true, I AM a diva, but I do love to play in the mud with the best of 'em! You, me, Alf - let's do it!! And Veronica Lynn, never tried that "pooping in the shoe" thing, but hmmm, that's giving me all kinds of new ideas....:ROFLMAO: You know, training those humans never stops, it's an on-going process, so anything to get them to sit up and take notice!:cool: Leaf, you try that out and let me know how that works out for you - I'll wait for word on that. In the meantime, you keep on your mom and don't let her forget her promise of a big birthday bash. Remind her daily if you have to. If you think she's going to let it just slide by and be forgotten, remind her - maybe give her a gentle reminder .. a little winter wonderland here, a chewed shoe there, we do what we have to do!

Oh and Leaf, don't forget to huff & puff and roll your eyes and look totally "put out"! Also, sometimes I remind my mom of important things she forgets like needing to play with me NOW or giving me a bite of her snack by poking her with my nose repeatedly until she remembers. (y)

Hi Makena:D So it's o.k. for Diva's to get down and dirty??? humm Food for Thought here:confused: I guess Ripley you Makena and Alf will have a real Diva party - sorry Alf what' s a boy Diva called (pardon my ignorance I've so much to learn about Divas).

I'll try Makena and Veronica Lyn to poop in her shoes but she's so TIDY!!!!!!:rolleyes: Shoes are always put away where I cannot reach them:( Wonder if it would work with Daddy's shoes???;) He leaves his around wherever he takes them off!!!!!!!!!!!:oops::rolleyes: Will let you know what happens Makena. And I've plenty of poop at present, been raiding the fig tree:poop::p:D

Oh I sure will make sure Mom doesn't forget!!!!!!!! I PROMISE all Divas I will never let up on reminding her! I've started already, created a smashing Winter Wonder Land with the cushions (the few that remain) and will find other ways to draw attention to the fact I WANNA HAVE MY PARTAY!!!!!!!!!! Mom says when the weathers more reliable - hummm????

Thank you Makena, we do have to do what we have to do to train these humans. I find they're rather slow learners at times and need quite a bit of gentle help in learning how to keep a Diva happy!

Thank you Veronica-Lynn.:D Wonderful tips!(y):D I have the nose poke and also add the paw poke off pretty well. Along with the jump up when she's typing and putting my paws on her arm, sure does stop her typing and makes her take notice of ME!!!!!!!!:D

Must work on the huffing and puffing, along with eye rolling, need to practice on those, as I'm not good at them and we do need to use every resource possible to train these humans. Of course, must add, I do use Positive Reinforcement only, she get's her rewards, ME being a very good girl.:D:p

Ooh, maybe I have a bit of diva in me.. I LOVE the huff and puff and roll your eyes, I find that doing that almost daily gets me more of what I want than just about anything else!

Hi Leaf - I think every gal should get down and dirty some of the time!

A little tip on the winter wonder land theme - when you run out of cushions, kitchen towel and toilet roll make a great options too!;)

Brody here... just had to chime in. I don't consider myself a Divo (that is the male version, btw), but a young lad has to have his needs met as well. We've had enough snow here, lately, but I like to steal the used tissues out of the trash and shred them up a bit. Also, when Mum's on the laptop too long, I find resting my chin on the keyboard is a very effective attention-getter. And then there's the task of keeping the felines in their place. Can't have them thinking they rule the roost, even if they were here long before I arrived. No way are they smarter or faster than me, and I have no qualms about letting them know it. I keep Mum busy looking for new places to put their food dishes and litter boxes so I can't get at them. Those dumb cats never know where to find them, she has to move them so often!

Of course Brody, Zeus is nodding his head in whole hearted agreement!

Both Zeus and I have used the kleenex trick, it's a grand one and Zeus is a specialist in this field.

Mom's wanting a laptop, so will remember your tip of chin on keyboard, that's a brilliant one!(y):sneaky:

Oh cats!!!!!!!! I'm working hard on getting the two sybaritic madams here in line. Boy, I think they're even harder to train than the humans. Any tips on training cats would be appreciated because as you so rightly say Brody, we cannot have them thinking they rule the house! Taken on board the changing places of their litter boxes and food dishes, will have to have a word with Mom on that one, though she seems to think we are all equal!!!!!!! And should 'share' nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
