Dandy Met A New Friend Today!

hubbie was outside, dandy was out in the back on his tether (we use the clothesline as a zipline so he has full run of the yard). hubbie sees something odd in our driveway, right next to the shed... gets a bit closer and... it's a deer! a doe!

the wierd thing is that dandy was barking at the deer and the deer was totally ignoring him! hubbie was freaking out - frozen, didn't know what to do: he desperately wanted to get his camera but was afraid the deer would bolt. the deer saw him then, however, and bolted into the back yard. ganesh said his stomach froze - he thought for sure dandy would "do for" the deer but no!

the deer ran the length of the yard, dandy ran right alongside her, head and ears high and tail and tongue waving like flags, and she made a little "you know, a *boomp*!" jump into the shrubbery at the back edge of the property. dandy tried to follow suit but did a [skip to 0:57]

and the deer just stood there in the bushes staring at him in mild amazement. seeing she wasn't going anywhere, ganesh went back into the house from the front, got dandy into the house, got his camera, and snapped off some really gorgeous shots.

i'll put them in here as soon as he bothers to, you know, SHARE them with the rest of the class.

So nice! The only wild life we get around here are squirrels, possums (hideous giant rats with pink eyes, ew!) and the occasional raccoon.

Cool. The deers here look different than yours. Ours are White tailed deer. They are small(maybe 4ft) and a light brown.

that is a white-tail - they're pretty big around here bec they wander through town and can browse on compost and ppl's gardens, lol.

she was back again this morning, so definitely not afraid of dandy even though she has two little white-spots with her. i haven't seen them - the lady over at the back of the townhouse complex saw them from her upstairs window. she thinks they're in the empty wooded lot behind our house because the deer seems to centre there.

this shot was taken this morning - she's quite annoyed that the bird feeder hasn't been topped up yet:
