Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to train to say yes or no? I'd like to get Archie to be able to shake and nod his head on command - is this unrealistic? Has anyone done it?:dognowink::msnohyes:
The only thing that comes to mind would be to train the motion.. Maybe just click and reward for head following a treat back and forth, and then move away from using a treat to just using your hand. Then as the motion progresses move your hand further away from their face?
Someone else might come up with something better, but that's what I would try.
I think it can be done. However I would focus on training one at a time.
You could try luring his head up and down by bringing a treat to his nose lifting it, and lowering it. Eventually with repetitions I believe your dog should be able to do this on command, and hand signal.
I'm teaching "yep" and "nope". Because I use "yes" and "no" for every other thing, when I say "yep" he'll know to nod (eventually). Right now I'm doing it like Jean has suggested, with the treat close. Then I'll start moving away...I'll keep you posted!
