Bee Stings

Our puppy was playing on the deck today and encountered a yellowjacket. I believe she was stung between the pads of her paw because she won't put any weight on it, and has been licking it and whining. Is there anything I can do to make it less painful, or to help her out?

There are a couple of things you can do immediately.

1. Put white wine vinegar on a cotton ball and dab the affected area
2. Make a thick paste using baking soda and water and slab it on
3. Wrap a moist tea bag to the paw for about 10 minutes.

The vinegar cuts pain, the baking soda cuts the venom, and the tea bag draws out venom and infection as well.

You can try just the vinegar and see if that helps, or combine a couple of them. I would suggest trying the vinegar and the tea bag.

Hope your puppy feels better soon!

Oh, and whatever you choose to put on the paw, just make sure to wrap it up for a bit to let the stuff do its work without puppy chewing or licking the area. If you can see the stinger, get it out by scraping it with a credit card.
