Richo's First Escape!

We've been working hard on Richo sitting nicely at the door when people arrive/leave/put the rubbish out etc. and he's been doing great (albeit obviously itchy to come out and say hi!).

Except yesterday when he was sitting nicely as some family were getting into their car - and the neighbours dogs barked! - then he was off down the driveway, around the fence and up to their front gate!

Thankfully it was only curiosity in the dogs and not a sheer will to simply escape and run free, but it woke us up a little to the fact that he is still young, still immature, and not as far along as we thought!

Time to go back a step or two.

That's one wake up call!!!!!!! Not sure quite how old Richo is now, but he'd still be very young, so as you've already found out, don't totally trust him to sit especially as you say he's obviously 'itchy' to come out and say hi. A barking dog is a great excuse to run off!

It's grand he wasn't trying to escape per se, but still a worry all the same.

I would make sure you have a 'hold' on him in future until he's well over the puppy/adolescent stages. Keep working with him on sitting like a good boy, that's a great way to work with him, but keep a hold on him too! Maybe just slip on his lead while he's greeting and meeting guests. You cannot be too careful!
