Who Says Dogs Can't Differentiate?

we were getting ready for our walk this morning but hubbie wasn't feeling too energetic. so i said "watch this: dandy? get DADDY'S shoes".

dandy started with his "where!?? where!?? where is it!??" (head whipping side to side, sniffing the floor) and i rolled my eyes and said "they're downstairs".

and just as ganesh said "as if he understands that", dandy came back up the stairs with one of his shoes! i said "get daddy's other shoe - downstairs" and dandy charged down the stairs and came back with my boot, hesitated at the top step, looked at me, dropped the boot sheepishly, and i said "is that daddy's shoe? that's my boot. take it back." he took it back downstairs and came back with ganesh's other shoe (actually, he dropped the boot beside the door where my hubbie's other shoe was instead of returning ti to the downstairs closet but the effort was there).

it really is exactly like talking to a toddler about 18 mo old.
