Positive Trainer’s Essentials
There are a few products that are a must have if you are going to train your dog using positive methods.
Clicker
The clicker is a small gadget that emits a distinct sound each time the button is pressed. This sound, once the dog has been conditioned to it, is used to pinpoint and inform the dog of the behavior we want to reinforce.
For example, let’s say that I want to train my dog to touch my hand with his nose. What I would do is place my hand at the dog's eye level and wait until he comes to investigate. Once he starts sniffing my hand, I would pay close attention and click the exact moment that his nose touches my hand (and then give him a treat).
The clicker has been proven extremely effective because it does not sound like anything else. There are many professional dog trainers who strictly use clickers for training dogs.
Training Pouch
The training pouch is very useful because it allows you to place all of your treats in a convenient and easily accessible location. Many trainers love using pouches because it allows them to remove the treats from the dog’s sight.
