HERE ARE SEVEN THINGS THAT HAVE HELPED ME PREVENT REACTIONS and reduce aggression from my own dog-aggressive dog about other dogs.
THERE ARE LOTS OF WAYS TO WORK ON REDUCING DOG AGGRESSION, these are just 7 things that helped *my*dog. I am writing another thread on shy dogs who aggress towards humans, THIS THREAD is about persistent, inappropriate, ongoing aggression from your dog-aggressive dog towards other DOGS.
I'm not a pro, just someone who loves her dog-aggressive dog, and this might not help with your dog. I hope others also post what has actually helped their dogs reduce their aggression.
I think tricks training is GREAT for dogs with issues, it helps strenghten the bond, and makes focusing on you easier.
Helping your dog reduce his aggression takes a bit of practice, and gets easier
for both me,
and for the dog,
the more i use it. It’s really not that hard, but it does take ongoing efforts and consistency.
Be sure to look over #6, too, for “general desensitizing” to dogs in your own neighborhood. And i hope all ppl who are NEW to working with any aggressive dogs will read #7 about growling dogs.
The first 5 are ones I use to keep Buddy calm while out on a walk. Buddy *used to* react at 300 feet away, very vicious, he'd bite any dog he got close to,
and now, we are down to about 5 or 10 feet, and often, no reaction at all. And his reactions are NOT as severe, briefer, less often, easier...

I would have posted this earlier but I had exams and started my new semester at school. So ther problem is that Brody growls at other dogs. To be more specific, on walks when he sees a dog he will freeze, with his ears erect. This usually happens when stranger dogs are at a distance. When they are closer (walking by) his fur will raise and he will start whining. If the do meet he will sometimes growl at them.Another time is when a puppy is visiting (one from the litter we had) he would growl at him when he is near. The puppy is a male and I try not to meet other dogs on walks with Brody so I don't know if the other dogs are male or not. I don't know if he is growling if it is because the other dogs are male (Brody is not fixed yet) or if it could be a personal space issue. He gets along with the two females at my moms house (his mom and my brothers dog) He never growls, the only time would be if they try to steal his bone he is chewing on. When we had the litter of puppies Brody would growl at them, we had one little guy named Dexter who we kept a little longer then the rest. Brody finally stopped growly and actually started playing with him three days before Dexter went to his new family.
I almost forgot. Sometimes when we do meet other dogs he will whine but he sometimes does the playful bow.

My Border Collie Fairley licks people obsessively. It's driving everyone crazy and I don't know what to do. She'll walk by and lick someone's foot as she goes and she'll lick your hand if it's by your side. It's particularly annoying when she does it after I get out of the shower or when someone is cooking. I know it's not the smells or the food that causes her to do this because she'll lick as she walks by. She does it to everyone: strangers and people she knows. She is shy around new people and she'll lick when she first meets a person, and this is in a submissive way. But, I have no idea why she does this to people like my boyfriend and I, who she sees every day. It's not a submissive thing because I can recognize when she does it submissively, like with new people.
She'll do it as she walks by and she'll just stand there and lick someone until they fuss at her to stop. I've tried everything from fussing and telling her no to telling her to "leave it" as well as redirecting her to a toy or leaving the room/ not paying attention to her. Nothing works.
