| June 2008 Intermediate Challenge by Jean
Objective In this month's Intermediate Training Challenge, you will have to train your dog to balance a treat or bone on his nose. This is not the easiest trick to train but is tons of fun!!! ![]() Rules

| ECCCKKKKKSSSSS !!!! Only a few days to go.... I started with Talin for this trick, he decided it was smarter to catch the treat a second after I placed it on his nose. So I moved onto Arlie, she is more devoted to pleasing me anyway. With only a few days to go, I'll have to speed it up. Here is our progress so far.... |

| I've been practicing this with my dog for about a week and a half or so for a few minutes a day. I think that by Sunday I should be able to make a video of her doing the trick. |

| That looks pretty good dat123! I started training this with my dog first using my touch (acclimatizing her to my touch), then a 1/4 bone and gradually went to a full sized bone. ![]() |

| Arlie is looking great! I'm doing the same thing with Harmony - bottle cap first, then I'll move to a biscuit. I thought I had already done this with Charlie, but it may only have been my first Poodle that I taught... Charlie certainly didn't act like he knew what to do, lol. He got it after a few sessions, and I wish my camera took a clearer video - he froze in place and crossed his eyes to keep watching the cookie! ![]() Videos later today. |

Even though I realized that I practiced the treats on feet and treats on nose separately, and for balancing it on his nose he was always given a different treat as a reward and not given the nose treat. That's why in the first video shown he left the rawhide piece for last till I said ok again, and by the 2nd attempt he was already going for it first upon release! |
