winter and mud monsters
Posted 07-02-2009 at 12:09 AM by storm22 its been raining horribly for the past week, my dogs have been locked up in the shed its been to wet to do any training even walking the dogs for the past week hasnt been worth it (koda doesnt like rain, well not the down pour were having at the moment she came out on her lead sat down in the street and didnt budge i had to pick her up and carry her back to our driveway before she made a hastely retreat for the shed), thats the dogs new kennel at the moment while there kennels look like castles surounded by moats of water, that race track the dogs carved up last summer now looks like a jet sprint boat track.
the other night i got home from work (after midnight) and found our road covered in water and the culvets were covered in leaves and debris so i got on my gumboots and took the dogs out koda came out relised it was raining and went back to the warm shed but storm came out with me (he doesnt mind the rain, typical farm dog really), hes was running along in the rain and trying to splash me with the puddles, his fav winter game, when all of a sudden he had to start swimming in the middle of the road so i knew my gumboots were going to be submerged in water, but i had to clean out the drains before our yard looks like the road, so the water was up round the thigh height but had gone down past my gumboots once i'd finished moving the leaves round so water could go down the drains.
but the rain eased off yesterday and today its been fine all day, you could even see the sun and funny enough we even saw koda in the yard today but id rather she stayed in the shed, you shoulda seen the mud fly, our backyard is going to need some much needed TLC come spring time, theres not much grass left after the dogs played today, koda is no longer brindle shes just one colour of brown, and storm looks like a completly different dog.......
well he did even the pig dog guy down the road asked me if he was a new dog i got, but then storm ran up to him to say hi and rubbed dirt on his trousers (he didnt mind, he was about to take his pack for a run and he would just get more mud on him later) then storm went for a swim in the ditch that runs down the side of the road, sometimes i wonder about that dog, yeah it was sunny but we still have a strong cold bitter wind, but atleast hes clean again after another towel off hes now snuggled up on his bed at my sisters place
