| | Vito is really cute! I couldn't treat train my dog to retrieve. He just isn't that keen on food but he loves to chase so now retrieving is his reward for doing other stuff. He never levitated though - I guess he's too laid back. |

| | Vito does love to retrieve which is why I didn't need treats to train an informal retrieve. But I'm trying to teach him the formal obedience retrieve which involves a sit in front, no mouthing, hold dumbbell comletely still until I say "give", even if I'm touching the dumbbell. So I'm obviously starting slow and just working on the sit. the problem is getting an actual sit and not what looks like a "beg" with dumbbell in mouth! And yes, Vito is anything but laid back! ![]() |

| | ROFL. xD My apologies. You're right; it is adorable. Would stepping into him make a difference? Not actually running into him, just stepping towards him so that he has to either put his paws down or jump on you, which I don't think he would do in that situation because it's not really the natural reaction. A video of exactly what you two do to work on the retrieve would be helpful. Might be able to catch something that one of you is doing. |

| | Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I just tried leaning into him, adn then even taking a step into him but that just caused him to almost do a backflip! Those front paws REALLy want to stay in the air, he just leaned backwards as far as he could till he fell over! Or when I took a step he dropped the dumbbell and stood up. I'll have to get a video to show you guys ![]() |

| | Dern. Well if you get a vid up maybe I'll have something to tell you. Lol! If not, then heck...you'll have a really creative retrieve. Well, you tried stepping into him, why not stepping away? Take a step back or to either side so that to be in front of you he has to move. Click when his paws hit the ground. This could develop a habit of stopping a little short, but that's a heck of a lot easier to fix than an upper-level retrieve. Lol! Hope that's clear. If it doesn't make sense feel free to ask. |
