Thanks Jean, you helped save my dog

While I don’t live any where near Jean or have even met him he has helped save my dog’s life. Many of you are probably very confused even Jean himself might be.

Today one of my dogs got out the yard. It was Kratos. Smashed through our wooden gate to go after something he must of seen. Thankfully Jinx and Isis weren’t out there as my mother had just brought them in but leaving Moose and Kratos out. Moose didn’t leave the yard but ran to the door and bark. My mom found the gate missing and called for Kratos. No such luck. She took the car and went up the hill while I was on foot running down the middle road. I whistled , the first command Kratos learned, and heard him bark. I tore through the neighbors yard to find him in the pond by the road watching towards where I had just whistled from. I called him again in an slightly panicked slightly excited voice only to have him come tearing up dirt as he ran to me with what I swear was a doggy grin.

This was the first dog I can say proudly that came running like this when they got out. The way I taught him to come was the way Jean shows on this very site where I learned it from. If I called him before I found this site he probably would have just ignore me and he was taught with the whole lunge line “call and pull” method beforehand. While I’m writing this I’m extremely proud, not that he got out but that he came back and that I found this site for teaching it to me. So thanks Jean, I might not have my dog anymore if not for you and this site.

Hi Charmed Wolf,

I am so happy and relieved that your dog is safe and into your arms and home. I’m happy to hear that the recall worked and that you were able to prevent a disaster. I’ve always believed that the COME (or recall to the dog’s name) is the most important behavior to teach. But the real person to thank should be you CharmedWolf! Because it is you who have taken the time, effort and dedication to train your dog! It took guts to invest money into a program that you didn’t know if it worked or not, and even more to follow the program – so the real hero is you!

Jean
