I had such a wonderful time at the workshop this past weekend! Lots of study in class and then breaks to go outside and work on what we just learned. We got to run three mini courses and then Sunday afternoon we, the students, had to set up a full course. Then we each got to take our dogs through it. What amazing fun! I now have a target stick and can really see the benefits of teaching with it rather than using hand signals for this sport. We know a lot more about using training gates to set your dog up for success and I can barely wait to get started. I also got to finally meet an online friend (of about four years), Kim, in person! She was gracious enough to invite us to stay at her home Saturday night. The funniest part of the weekend, was there, when my Spice girl went running full tilt across the yard and literally went flying into the swimming pool. Not once, but twice! I think she finally figured out that it wasn't solid ground. LOL! The look on her face was priceless and I so wish I'd had a camera in hand. One good thing came of it...she learned to swim! Spice, who is generally afraid of strangers, warmed quickly to the soft spoken Kim and showered her with wiggles and kisses. Spice even became fast friends with Kim's little cocker girl, Poppy. They spend most of the evening playing together and kissing each other. Royal was just content to be a mamma's boy and sit in my lap. I think he was tired after a long day of hard work, both physically and mentally. Here is a photo of me and the three dogs that Kim took. Royal is in my lap, Spice under the chair and Poppy in the foreground. One of the ladies at the workshop did videos of one of the mini courses and hopefully she will be sending them out soon. When I get it I will post it here.
