The yawn can also be self calming, even if they are happy excited, too. The yawn can also be the dog is calm, but feels YOU are too hyper/excited/whatever. Lol, dogs probably think we "heard" their message when they yawn for US to calm down!!
and frequent yawning in a car can indicate nausea.
I LOVED that this poster included the sniffing, and there is even a fake sniff, as a peace-making sign. So many ppl miss seeing that one, and just drag their dog along unaware their dog was "talking" to the other dog.
The fake sniff, is not quite like a 'real' sniff. The fake sniff the dog holds still, posing,
with his nose jammed down into the grass, not exhaling and then re-inhaling deeply,
not moving around to follow the scent,
just posing, usually with side towards the other dog.
I love fake sniffs!
Also, there are a few more stress or calm-down signals, like a slight fast paw lift, and lip licks.
